Jahruba

Jahruba has been a professional musician for more than 50 years and has performed throughout Oklahoma at schools, churches, restaurants and arts festivals. His music embodies a unique blend of blues, jazz, worldbeat, reggae, and traditional African rhythms, mixed with the red dirt culture of Oklahoma. He specializes in conga drum, djembe, ashiko and bongo drums. Jahruba is especially gifted at working with children. As Artist in Residence at Northwest Oklahoma City elementary schools, he organized African drumming programs for grades K-5 teaching drumming fundamentals, as well as history, geography, folktales and mentoring methods used by African griots. Jahruba also a storyteller and writes poems and African folktales.
