Lauren Sonder (Piano, Theory, Composition)

Lauren Sonder received her Bachelors of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, MA) in 1999, where she first studied piano and then majored in music history. She graduated with a Masters of Music in composition from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, where she studied with Roland Barrett and Marvin Lamb. Lauren began teaching piano in 1993 and held piano studios in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts before teaching in Oklahoma. She believes in a holistic approach to teaching, involving music appreciation, theory, improvisation and ear training.
As a pianist, Lauren enjoys improvisation and has performed with the University of Oklahoma
New Improv! Century Ensemble and the improvisational ensemble,
Ex Oblivione. As a composer, she loves working with modern dancers and choreographers. She also recently completed a short musical film. Lauren is Vice Chair of the
Oklahoma Composers Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting new music in Oklahoma.
