Jean Hill (Hill Irish Dance School)
Jean Hill is founder and director of Hill Irish Dance School and has been teaching Irish step dancing and ceili dancing since 1998. Known for her patient teaching style and in-depth knowledge of the music (she plays piano accordion and penny whistle), Ms. Hill believes the essential element of dance is enjoyment. She earned her TCRG (Irish Dance Teacher’s Certification) in March 2006 and her love of music and dance runs deep.
Since 1983, Ms. Hill has performed with various Irish music and dance groups in the Oklahoma City area, particularly with the Celtic band, Banish Misfortune. A performing artist with the Oklahoma State Arts Council Touring Program from 1998 to 2007, Ms. Hill presented traditional Irish dancing to audiences and workshop participants all over Oklahoma. From 2001 to 2006, she organized the Irish Arts Oklahoma annual workshop and concert series, featuring internationally known Irish guest artists in the fields of Irish music, dance, language and song. From 2003-2005, she was an artist on staff at Oklahoma Arts Adventure summer camp at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, teaching World and Irish dance and penny whistle. In 2007, Ms. Hill instructed at the World Culture Olympics at Westminster School’s Summer Program in Oklahoma City. Since 2007, she has directed a summer Celtic Camp for kids in Oklahoma City, celebrating the traditions of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
