Lauren Sonder (Piano, Theory, Composition)

Lauren Sonder received her Bachelors of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1999, where she first studied piano and then majored in music history. She graduated with a Masters of Music in composition from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, where she studied with Roland Barrett and Marvin Lamb. Lauren began teaching piano in 1993 and held piano studios in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts before teaching in Oklahoma. She believes in a holistic approach to teaching, involving music appreciation, theory, improvisation and ear training. Lauren became a Licensed Music Together® Director in 2010.

As a pianist, Lauren focuses primarily on experimental improvisation and has performed with the University of Oklahoma New Improv! Century Ensemble and the improvisational ensemble, Ex Oblivione. As a composer, she enjoys working with modern dancers and choreographers. Lauren sits on the board of the Norman Arts Council and volunteers for the Norman Music Festival.
